GooD LucK brybry and not 100% sure how I would back the other 5 dogs to make sure of a profit. I am on Trap 3 and also like the look of one or two others in the earlier on races !
All roads lead to Wimbledon this evening where the Blue Square Greyhound Derby final takes centre-stage. The £100,000-to-the-winner decider is virtually a head-to-head contest between Nick Savva and the Irish.
Savva has two with a serious chance - Dilemmas Flight (T3) and Westmead Lord (T6). Dilemmas Flight bids to be the first bitch since 1979 to win the Derby and the first ever to land the Oaks/Derby double. She impressed in the semis and we suggest that her all-round pace and proven nerve for the big occasion can pull her through.
Westmead Lord (T6), who has yet to win a heat in the competition, goes into the Final as third favourite and with every chance to lead and stretch them. However, the one the Savva brace have to beat is Loyal Honcho (T5) who leads an Irish 1-2-3 assault on the final and holds the fastest clock of all six finalists.
Forest Scholes, available to back at 10-1 with Betdirect, Paddy Power and Totesport, looks tremendous value to finally lay to rest the trap one hoodoo that has enshrouded Wimbledon Derby finals, writes Peter Meldrum.
This will be the 23rd running of the premier classic since its move to Wimbledon from White City and in that time no red-vested runner has prevailed.
However, over that period the Plough Lane circuit has undergone radical change and the most recent improvements certainly raise the chances of a red-vested runner finally being paraded as Derby champion.
It is difficult to envisage Caulry Fast Trap finding a clear run from trap four but it would be a brave man that totally ruled out even Liz and Rab McNair's outsider.
In such a hotly contested race any advantage however slight, may in the end prove crucial, especially in a race that will in all likelihood de decided on the run to the first turn.
With no guaranteed leader in the field there is a chance of four or five hounds reaching the bend in unison. Forest Scholes, should hopefully be up there among the throng and by dint of being in the inside may make full use of the advantage to be in the vanguard turning into the back-straight.
Dangers to the Fraser Black trained selection are easy to find, there are five of them, anyone of which would prove a worthy winner of the world's greatest greyhound race.
Inside traps slightly better than outside. In The Derby Final the outside traps are taking up slightly over 50% of the book so, the value is in traps 1,2 & 3. With the shocking record of trap 1 in this race over the years Im gonna split £50 between traps 2 & 3.
