With the way things have gone this week it’s clear sailing from here on out. Not really any races to get overly confident about today.

Albany Stakes

Think this Bolger horse could be anything but at those prices am not willing to find out.

King Edward

Bronze Cannon for me here. Never thrilled when pricewise picks mine but had a small ap wager for the Derby at a very big price and hoping today is payback time . Could be a blessing in disguise that he did not run there. At larger prices City Leader would be the other I am interested in. Bronze Cannon rated the best possbility today.

Coronation

Year in year out this is the race that has been best to me. Unfortunately this year is about as wide open as I can remember. Spacious is fave but looking at the form she falls short. 3yo faves running mainly on reputation at the Royal meet are poor value faves. Add to that the very poor win strike rate of Fanshawes‘, she can easily be passed. Infallible next in the market has to prove to me that she’ll get the trip over this stiff 8 furlongs. Her impressive looking Nell Gwynn is looking more and more like top level handicap form but not good enough for the level required today. Her fourth in the 1000G is deceiving as the pace was sedate and imo only the winner there is a top class filly albeit a very good one. Next in the market is Lush Lashes. Dont think she has the pace for a really top flight mile race and will probably be proved best at 10 furlongs. If the pace is really fast (not sure from who) her stamina might kick in. If it’s a sprint she has little/no chance. Now it gets interesting. Modern Look would be the stone cold selection if I was 100% convinced she can handle the very quick surface today, being out of Zammindar I’d think so. Been beaten by the clearly two best 3yo fillies, Zarkava would be 8/11 for this and Natagora would be 6/4 7/4 so she rates a very good price based on that. French fillies have a very good recod in this as well. Psalm is running for Ballydoyle and while they have hade a superb meet their strength is clearly with the older horses this year and one 3yo named Henry. The rest of their 3yo’s simply are not good enough, would be a major shock for me. Muthabara and Nahoodh (changed stables recently) are no more than remotely possible. Carribean Sunset rates a real serious threat. The main worry is Dermot Weld not having saddled a winner here in more than five years. Tuscan Evening is too big based on her run with CS but she has the human handbrake „Slick“ Mick in the saddle. Leaves Love of Dubai and laugh if you will but I’m on this one for a tenner at 90’s. Going for a Mr. Taylor special and a double e/w Bronze Cannon/Modern Look in the hope that I’ll have something going on and a win Modern Look if BC does not win.

Wolferton

Ugh, no thanks

Queens Vase

I rarely lay but Patkai would be one. Ryan Moore might have gotten the monkey off his back but he has unfortunately been involved in some very poor race riding this week, none more so than that horrible ride on Allegretto yesterday. Whatever he was thinking we’ll never know but rarely has a horse been without a chance to win so far from the finish due mainly to jockey brainlock. The worst ride of the meet hands down. Even his ride on Colony was another one dimensional come from last place type of ride, he is a lot better than that. As usually happens with these type of statements no surprise if this one comes back to haunt me today. I’ll stick to my guns though on 6/4 for Patkai at an unknown distance being a ridiculous price.

Buckingham Palace

Another handicap, I’ll happily defer to the maetro for these.

A Ryan Moore sort of day for me yesterday, just kidding Ryan. Patkai made me look like the village idiot but I will continue in the same vein that 4/1 for the Leger is truly ridiculous. Lush Lashes got the real strong pace she needed and duly obliged, well done again Mick.

Today only one race for me to concentrate on and that is the Golden Jubilee. Two horses against the field. Marchand D'or and War Artist. Making it short and sweet Marchand D'Or with a win bet and War Artist e/w and hoping the old warrior TT doesn't do me in. That's a wrap for RA 2008.
