I felt we were very unlucky with Countdown and as expected the trainer clearly was targeting this race and in a few more strides would have won at odds over 18-1 Betfair. Anyway not to worry things are ok at the moment and horses are running to form but examples like that just show the difficulty between winning and losing and that certainly would have set the month off really well.
One that I hope will keep the trend up is Balakiref at Haydock. We don't appear to be getting the luck of the draw at the moment and I would have been happier to be where the pace is because off a fast pace, this horse has one of the most remarable turn of foots you will ever see at this grade and having won around this time of the year on many occassions the horse is one I often keep an eye out for. Won last July off a higher mark and in fact has won 6 races off higher marks. This horse always hits the handicap brick wall at a mark of 80+ it then hangs around dropping down gradually until now having a mark of 71 and a good previous run enables us to have a closer look. Will play today at a good price but a bit of rain and a lower draw would have seen a bigger bet.
