New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns 8:30 pm US Cleveland Browns Stadium
The defending SuperBowl Champions come into Cleveland at 4-0, and I don't think anyone would doubt them getting to 5-0 by bedtime on Monday.
New York Giants
Undefeated, leaders in total offense, rushing yards, yards per carry, first downs and points. Defensively, they rank in the top three in points allowed, passing yards and total yards allowed. Need I go on?
You know this Giants team will score on Cleveland, the question is, how many? After dropping 44 on Seattle last week, New York will this week be able to turn to the returning Plaxico Burress, who sat out last weeks game due to suspension for missing a team meeting. The rushing side remains another dangerous side of the Giants game, led by Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs and the NY o-line were recently slagged off by Clevelands defensive tackle Corey Williams, so expect them to come out and try to prove a point. I expect them to put up at least 30 on Monday night.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns come into this game rested off their bye week and looking to build on their first win of the season. At 0-3, having scored a measly 26 combined, the Browns won 20-12 at Cincinnati to put one in win column.
The Browns have gotten healthier during the break, and will see the debut of receiver Donte Stallworth after his $35 million free-agent contract. I expect QB Derek Anderson to continue to improve in this game, with the desire to perform made even stronger by the fact they are playing the champs at home in the spotlight. But while discussing health issues, it is important to note that Tight End Kellen Winslow will probably be absent. The Browns most potent offensive weapon so far was hospitalised with an undisclosed illness on Thursday night.
While DT Williams has given NY added motivation with his disparaging comments last week, the Browns will be fired up too, this being a revenge spot after the 18th August preseason game between the two sides, where the Giants put up 30 unanswered points in the 1st half and gave Anderson a concussion, not to mention injure 4 other Brown starters. The Browns will want to avenge that embarrassment on the national stage, so you can expect them to leave it all on the field. I reckon they are good for at least 14 points here, and that is plenty as far as the bet is concerned.
The Giants can be scored on, as was demonstrated in their previous games, but Derek Anderson and his Browns OL will have to perform at close to last seasons level if they are to have any chance of pulling off the upset. I expect them to put up some points here but fall short by at least a touchdown.
