I'm not one for Laying odds on favourites, but whilst I was looking for info about the match tonight (the intention was to back St Pats), it's become clear this is not a great bet.

I saw best odds of St. Pats at about 1.60 earlier this morning, those best odds are 1.72 with Canbet.

I've picked bits from an RTE Preview

St Patrick's Athletic -v- Galway United
Tuesday, 14 October 2008

St Patrick's Athletic will be looking to bounce back from Friday's 3-0 loss to Cobh Ramblers when Galway United travel to Richmond Park tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

This eircom Premier Division game was originally supposed to take place on 5 September but was postponed due to heavy rain.

The Saints have Derek O'Brien back from suspension and goalkeeper Barry Ryan is expected to overcome a back complaint he incurred against Cobh to take his place between the posts.

Pat's will have to do without top scorer Mark Quigley who is suffering with 'flu as he joins a long missing list that also includes Des Byrne (hamstring), Damien Lynch (ankle), David Partridge (shoulder), Bobby Ryan (knee), Stephen Paisley (groin) Gary O'Neill (groin) and John Murphy (back).

And McDonnell knows that Galway will be going all out to secure three points to boost their chances of avoiding the drop.

He added: 'Friday's match was easily our worst game of the season. If every team is entitled to one bad day in a season then I'd definitely like to think we've had ours.

'The conditions were awful, things that could go wrong did but that's not taking away from Cobh who deserve full credit for their win.

'We didn't play well but Galway will be another game and another chance to put three more points on the board.'

Galway have gone six games unbeaten thanks to the Jay O'Shea penalty that earned them a point in their Connacht derby against Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds on Saturday night.

O'Shea will be missing due to international commitments with the Republic of Ireland U-21s, but manager Jeff Kenna will have Jonathan Keane to call on again.

Kenna accepted his side were lucky to take anything away from Sligo, but is now calling on his charges to make the most of their good fortune.

Kenna said: 'Based on the performance last Saturday I'm reasonably happy with getting the point as we rode our luck on a few occasions.'

He added: 'The team are well aware that St Pat's will be up for the game after their heavy defeat to Cobh Ramblers it's a big opportunity for us to keep climbing towards safety

--------------------------------------------------

To me the Home win is not as odds on as it may seem. They have a cup Semi coming up, they can't/won't win the league and they are playing a team scrapping for their lives who are unbeaten in 6. They also have a long injury list. The only positive, is they do need to wrap up 2nd still.

Laying St Pat's is the equiv of 2.42 (the same as the double chance for Galway.)

I can't decide to have a dabble on Galway, but I've convinced myself not to back St Pats as a result.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Rescheduled for tonight...

St Patrick's Athletic still have a cup semi final to play on Friday, 2nd place looks a bit more secure now after winning on Sat...

Still tempting to lay...

St Patrick's Athletic v Galway United
Monday, 20 October 2008 13:26
Jeff Kenna's Galway side travel to Richmond Park aiming to get something from this rescheduled fixture in their quest to avoid relegation.

Pat's will be without top scorer Mark Quigley after he jarred his knee against Shamrock Rovers on Saturday night.

Glen Fitzpatrick and Dave Partridge, who both came off the bench in the 3-1 win over the Hoops, are likely to feature again, while Dessie Byrne is also back in contention after overcoming a hamstring injury.

However, Bobby Ryan (shoulder), Stephen Paisley (groin), Gary O'Neill (groin) and John Murphy (back) are still on the injured list for John McDonnell's men.

Galway will arrive in the capital without the in-form Jay O'Shea after he was called up to Pat Fenlon's Republic of Ireland U-23 squad for tomorrow's clash with Belgium at Dalymount Park.

Victory tonight would see Galway move level on points with Cobh Ramblers, but the Tribesmen would move out of the bottom three on goal difference.

United have hit form at a crucial time of the season, and manager Jeff Kenna is looking for his charges to add to their recent run of impressive results.

'We are now six games unbeaten and after our impressive 4-0 win against Bray Wanderers morale in the camp is at an all time high,' said Kenna.

'We are hitting form just at the right time and our fate is pretty much in our own hands if we keep getting results like we have been doing then I have no doubt we will avoid the drop.'

22nd minute goal wins it.

I only went for the double chance though.
