The magic of the FA Cup is once again upon us as Non-League Premier Wealdstone entertain League Two professionals Rotherham United in Sunday’s FA Cup 1st Round match at their Grosvenor Vale ground. Wealdstone, currently lying fourth in the Non-League Premier, have made an encouraging start to the season with a 3-1-1 9gls for, 5 gls against home record in the league so far. The home draw has certainly been kind to them as they dream of a giant-killing act that would take them to the FA Cup 2nd round and the promise of much needed further financial incentives. Wealdstone have progressed this far courtesy of accounting for Conference South side Lewes 3-0 at home, and then a 4-2 away win at Southern Midlands side Aylesbury United as they safely negotiated the Qualifying rounds. Alan Massey and Kieron Forbes will undergo precautionary late fitness tests, while Greg Ngoyi is definitely ruled out following his sending off against Aylesbury in the previous round. Unfortunately, they are up against a strong Rotherham side who are currently in fifth position in League Two, some 69 league positions above their opponents, and whom have an experienced manager in the shape of Ronnie Moore. Rotherham’s home form is very good 4-4-0, but obviously this goes out the window today. They have suffered three away defeats in league Two so far (0-1 v Bournemouth & 1-2 v Bury) which are no disgrace as both Bournemouth & Bury are in the promotion & play-off places respectively. Sandwiched between those two results was a surprise 1-3 reverse against Northampton Town. But Rotherham are boosted by the return of creative midfielder Nicky Law(1gl,5assts) after an illness, while midfielder Micky Cummins(1gl) & defender Marc Joseph look set to be sidelined with groin injuries. The Millers are very capable of creating & finishing chances as their main threats in the form of Adam Le Fondre(9gls,1asst), Kevin Ellison(4gls,3assts) & Tom Pope(1gl,3assts) will testify.
I believe that Rotherham should be too strong for their opponents today, and may well have to come from behind after an early set-back I fancy, but the quality & finishing should come out on top in this one.
Main pick: Rotherham win @ attractive odds of 1.56 Betfair or 1.55 Expekt
Side pick: Over 2.5 goals – 1.80 Betfair
Good luck!
